[Band Spotlight: The Casket Creatures]

Had an awesome chance to interview Derek Obscura from the The Casket Creatures . With their new album, "Sex, Blood, and Rock'n'Roll" coming out, I see a promising fan base growing rapidly from its release. Being able to catch some of their shows, I must say in the horror punk genre, they are slowly climbing to the top of my list. Their set list includes spooktacular tracks dedicated to horror movies, such as the song "2-4-5 Trioxin" and a sweet cover of Misfits "Halloween." Opening for many other amazing acts such as The Independents, Wednesday 13, Michale Graves, Static X, and many others - this is a band to kill for.

How long have you been working in the industry?
I’ve been seriously pursuing music for about 4 years now.

Where has the industry taken you (traveling, publications, etc.)
I have done a couple of tours around the Midwest and East Coast while playing with Staci Grim and so far with The Casket Creatures we have ventured on some east dates including the Ghouls Night Out Festival last year.

What is the wildest experience you have encountered while doing a performance/show?
I would have to say the 2012 Little 5 Points Halloween Parade was the craziest so far. The crowd was INSANE. We had to stop our set twice, once because we blew the generator and then the other time because someone almost died. The crowd almost knocked a light pole over as well! It was a great time that night, the crowd were really into us and even when we finished our set we wrote out they just kept wanting more so we played an extra 4 songs or. It was awesome!

Funniest experience?
Hmm…I would have to say during our live set there is a song where our singer Eddie Cadaver runs over and lifts me up during the solo. It never gets old and the first time it happened I laughed my ass off which made it even trickery to nail the solo while also being in the air!

Where do you see your career going from here?
Hopefully up! The Casket Creatures are getting set to release our new album “Sex, Blood and Rock N’ Roll” very soon and I would like to think that is going to cause a stir! I think people are going to be very shocked at this album but in a good way.

Who are some of your favorite people to work with?
Definitely the Atlanta horror scene people around here! We've worked with Shane Morton and his annual Rock N’ Roll MonsterBash, also Jonathan Williams and Shane with the Monstrosity Championship Wrestling. We all love playing shows with the Atlanta band Bigfoot those guys are great and any time we play a show with Racci running sound it is always a great time! And also the Staci Grim crew as great dudes, love those guys!

Do you currently have any sponsorships and/or are featured on any websites?
Currently endorsed by Kreepsville 666 Clothing (www.kreepsville666.com), Trance Doll Apparel clothing and Rock Jimmy’s guitar accessories (www.rockjimmy.com/) ! All great companies with cool items!

What songs are on your current playlist?
My playlist is beyond random. Lots of stuff people wouldn’t expect and then the usual! I will just give you some artists from my recently played: Cancer Bats, The Defiled, Johnny Cash, Davey Suicide, Stray Cats, Black Cat Attack, Kiss, Frank Sinatra!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Uh-oh…one of these questions!! Guilty pleasure…hmm..since this is revolving around music I guess I will list a band that..I don’t know if guilty pleasure is the word but..maybe it is! Either way and getting to the point of this, I am a huge fan of Paramore. Even have a tattoo. Yup… But I don’t know if that’s a guilty pleasure. I don’t post about it but if asked about them I wouldn't deny it!

Favorite horror movie?
Tough one….super tough. I am a huge fan of the classic horror movies! Definitely prefer the Black & White ones over color! But in general with so many great films it is really difficult to choose a favorite. Let’s just go with…anything with Vincent Price in it! Probably House on Haunted Hill…or The Last Man on Earth.

How do you think the world will end?
I think all the seals are going to break and Lucifer is going to step out of the cage and then we are going to be in the apocalypse and then I will find Sam and Dean Winchester and stay close to them!

What is the craziest outfit you have ever worn?
For Halloween one year I was a dead hooker. I had a pink wing, a skirt and knee high socks. I wish I still had pictures from that because I would post that everywhere! I looked damn good, just saying!

Favorite place you have ever played/performed?
There are a couple places that are at the top of the list! The Nightmare Factory in Havelock, NC has been a great time each time I’ve played there. Here in Atlanta definitely the Rock N Roll MonsterBash and the Little 5 Points Halloween Parade. And in New Jersey at the Ghouls Night Out Festival!

Where is somewhere you would love to perform?
Easily Europe! I would love to perform over seas. And then have to say California as well. So many legendary venues out that way that I would love to play.

How can we find/contact you (publicly)?
